The television president

I added a few photos from Life‘s spread on Robert Montgomery at the White House in 1953-54. I already had a few from another version of the photo set on the page where the Broadcast Room once was. Montgomery was a popular actor and television presenter in the 1950s, active in Republican politics, who helped Eisenhower become the first president to regularly and professionally appear on television (a medium Ike loved).

I also came across an interesting article from TV Guide in 1954 on Mongomery’s consultation.

UPDATE: And speaking of television, I just added a review of the White House depicted in the 1999 movie Wild Wild West to the movies and TV page.

  1. I’m going to answer my own question and guess that it is a renovated office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, judging from the venetian blinds and arched doorways.
