  1. Wow, you’re right. I hadn’t noticed that one. What is that? A windowless, apparently permanent structure tacked on to the West Wing? Ugh.

  2. I believe it’s a temporary access ramp with a garage door for all of the underground construction. You’ll recall the photo I sent to you once of the plans for the new underground parking and service tunnels. They’re going to need a way for construction/service vehicles to get in and out, so maybe they said “The temporary doorway and ramp will have to be covered completely and secured. Just a guess.

  3. Excellent photos nice to see unofficial photos once in a while to really feel the size of the building as sometimes normal photographers use special equipment that makes the rooms look larger then they are.

  4. The structure is in fact temporary and is covering work that is being done. There’s one on the East side too. Temporary, though, could mean a couple more years…

The underground project has actually been postponed indefinitely since 9/11, which is a shame because the WH could really use the additional space! Staffers are still cramming their cars on the Ellipse and service corridors are being used to store what is not kept off-site.

  5. Random comment here, and maybe this has already been established, but it’s safe to say they have recarpeted the West Wing from the terrible blue carpet to the goldenish carpet with some design on it. You can tell from the pics of cheney walking around and then the photo of the lobby and Tony Blair w/ bush. Much better carpeting.
